2.6.1 fps #'s lower right corner

Post by Dhuman »

Running 2.6.1 lower right corner of the screen there is "fps # "
what dose this mean and what effects the changing #
seems that the smaller the # the more jerky the movement is.
Example: map size 11, day skybox, put two trees, one cart and a lean-two
type building and one of the little guys to talk to.
#'s at start well over 100 (fps 100)
after making all the above in that area the numbers went down to fps 5 to 10
when i leave the area #'s go up to only fps 18 to 20
can some one please explain?

fps is an acronym for "Frames Per Second", which determines how fast an animation or movement in a game goes. The higher the fps, the better Sandbox does. When you add a lot of models, that's when the fps starts to drop. Especially with trees.

SOooo! it is safe to say that we should only make a map of size ten add a small building
maybe on tree or a person cant really make a map like the village map with out over taxing PAS
tho the village map ran fine?
I have 4Ghz chip, 256 mb graphics card and 4GB ram why dont that help?
are there to much detail or size of block or texture size should there be a large distance between models and buildings?
Thanks for info

the more stuff you put into a map, the slower it's gonna be, along with if the map's bigger, it'll be slower. You can make maps bigger than ten, it's usually recommended to not go above 16.

that kind of depends, for example if you use heightfield mode (for making terrain like hills and valleys), that can change your fps, usually lowering it.
