Trying to make a very small game demo

Post by Learner »

Hi guys!

I'm experimenting with writing a story, and I want to create a very small game demo. Stylistically, I was hoping to build a small game demo - something half as good as this, and with no sound if need be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBZUxxbj ... ure=relmfu

Basically, I only want to make a concrete floor, a few metallic buildings and a character with customized clothes, maybe wearing a knife or sword - that's all.

Combat isn't a big deal for me - I just want to be able to walk around with this character and get ideas.

Is this doable with the sandbox program, and if so, how could I go about doing this? Thank you!

I'm a real fish out of water with this stuff, and could sure use the expert advice! :)

^ I saw that on Youtube, and I'm in love.

It reminds me of the old Jedi Knight Dark Forces II game.

The idea of concrete below, stars above, is wonderful to me. I would love how to make something like that. :)

Actually, that's quite possible with Sandbox.

As for going about it... Depends on which mode you want to use (SSP, RPG, FPS). I would recommend RPG or FPS (although FPS isn't as developed as RPG). RPG scripting may take a bit to get the hang of, but you can if you try.

You can check it all out at the Sandbox wiki: http://www.sandboxgamemaker.com/wiki/in ... =Main_Page

Thanks. :P

So, what site would I go to, to get a decent Human model - and more importantly, where could I get their clothes, and how do I customize clothing, if I can?

I'm a little lost on this, so if you could give me a opinions on what you think works, I'd really appreciate it! :D

Could these be integrated into the game, as well?

For integration, that depends on the model format and license (although license is more a sell or freely distribute question). You would have to write the configuration which imports the model and animations as well. If you want custom clothing, you would likely have to edit the model somehow, or the model skin.
