Creating your own characters

I know theres a couple of tutorials on how to make models, but I was wondering can I use these models as characters for my game. I know the models can be added into the game and I know this may be a stupid question, but can these models be actually used as playable characters.
For example I see an add sponsored on this site about daz3d, and there I can make 3d characters(at least I think I can), can characters I make off their be transported to sandbox to be a working character?
Also on one of the tutorials here I see 2 programs called makehuman and Blender, can anyone rate from 1-10 with 10 being the most difficult how difficult it is for a newbie to make a character(who will be my main character) and adding him/her into sandbox.

id really appreciate any info anyone gives.

if you can export your daz models to md3, md2, or md5 format, yes they can be used in sandbox

it is fairly dificult for someone to make a full character,
though the modelling in makehuman makes a mesh and bones,
so you just have to create all the animations (dead/dying/jump/idle/left/right/forward..etc)
i'd say about a six, but it will take time to make a really good model
that isn't just a naked body from makehuman
