Destroyable Models/Scenery

Hey all,

After some long hesitation and having no time for personal projects I've decided to start with creating a game. I will be doing a full write up for the game on this forum but for now I'd like to know a bit of info on something.

So here we go, is it possible to have destroyable scenery? For instance, if I have a wall and I shoot the wall, I'd like to be able to blow a hole through the wall. I'm not too sure how I would approach this.

Would the wall have to be a destroyable model? And how would I go about making the model destroyable?

Thanks,
Chris :)

PS! I'll be uploading a few conceptual drawings of what "The Game" is about in a week or so.

well. it may be possible, but a main reasson why most games are unable to do this is due to the amount of coding and processing power is requred to enable the destroyable object to actually have a unique destruction. for example: Take Just Cause 2, A great game, but not everything is destroyable, things in red with a star on the side, vehicles, and church towers (demo) only the vehicles can be destroyed in a unique way, although they do repeat from vehicle to vehicle.
