Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
I don't think Hirato or Calimer would have a problem with it, after all, PZL mode was supposed to happen, it didn't, but it still was put into Sandbox during it's early stages.
I think we should ask Hirato about RPG multiplayer, to see if it would work at all. I agree that MG would be much better with MP, so I would definitely want that included.
Scripting would be easier in FPS, and I believe an HUD could be whipped up without too much difficulty. If not, you can still have a scripted health system in the menu, which is something I've given a lot of thought to. I'd be willing to make a prototype if you like.

why wouldn't they agree with this?siimvuss wrote: 3: Have Hirato or Calimer release it in sandbox (I have nothing against it, its just that they might not agree)
I thought this was PZL mode...?arcones wrote:PZL mode was supposed to happen
Maybe you could do that, then we'll pitch it to Mike and Hirato.arcones wrote:I'd be willing to make a prototype if you like.
EDIT: after some searching:

In addition to those: maybe a time attack kind of thing?

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
Mike wanted to keep Sandbox as small as possible whilst maintaining it's robust abilities. Therefore, less maps/games then actual art assets.
This is Mini-Games, PZL mode is what Leo wanted to start, started, but never finished.
Last I talked to Mike (6 months ago) about MG, he was fine with it. So I'll just ask again, and if he's cool with it, then once we get farther along we'll ask Hirato to add a development branch to the SVN. I'll start the prototype ;D
Also, those are links that have inspired me, offtools being the main inspiration for this. Chaze's was mostly a continuation of his other project in some ways.
What do you mean by a timed attack?

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
a time attack would be kind of like a race, you know, make it to the finish of an obstacle course in so fast. It could be a way to make champions of the game, make it a timed race (clock going up), whoever has the smallest time in a group is the winner.
I've taken a look at the files in the src (source) folder, it doesn't look too complicated (fps holds fps things, rpg holds rpg things, etc). It's likely just going to be editing source files (if that's needed) that would be hard.
Anyways, I've been working on a map for a while now for this mode, it's like a dungeon from a Zelda game, with puzzles, mazes and the like, we'll see how that goes.

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
Ok, so its settled, we are gonna do this by modifying the source, and let Hirato include it in the SVN. I can do the source code modifying, I know enough c++ and after all I want to have some practice anyway. So we just need to talk to Hirato and see if RPG multiplayer is a realistic thing, if It is, then we can base minigames mode on RPG, if it isn't we'll just base it on FPS.
EDIT:
I talked to Hirato and he has no plans on adding muliplayer to RPG mode.
But I was thinking.... That we don't really need HUD too much, do we? we could just Base it on FPS, have no hud and we wouldnt have to modify the source.

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
@CP: AH, I understand now.
@Siim: I say FPS because the majority of us can code fairly well in Cubescript, so it'd be easier to get things done. Also, I'm going to work on the health menu, and see how that goes. And your right, there isn't much need for an HUD.

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
There were only two things that I would've use HUD for: A timer, which shows how much time you've taken so far on the map, how much your best is and maybe how much time you have left. And a list of all people currently playing and their status (if they are dead or not).
But basically we dont really need all of that and if we really want to show something we can have a key that pops up a menu which shows these things, which IMO is almost as good.
So lets just keep it simple and use cubescript for everything.

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
Yes, I agree.
Tab automatically brings up the list of players on the server and there deaths. I've already got a partial health system down. I've added the possibilities of "Health Stations" at checkpoints. Apples and pears would be some of the things you can use for your health. I'm also going to try to work on a stamina/adrenaline button (aka LShift). It'll increase your speed and jumpvel and will return over time.

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
Okay, well I know I'm double-posting, but Mike is fine with Sandbox including Mini-Games
) But it should be able to get into 2.8.
SO once we get more work done, maps, scripts, ideas etc, then we'll include it in the SVN. Mike said, fun games, but not too much co-op. I agree, partly because it's hard to find someone to play with. I don't think it'll be released with 2.7 (as it's coming soonsiimvuss wrote: 3: Have Hirato or Calimer release it in sandbox

Re: Mini-Game Series for Sandbox
Well... We actually dont even have to do much at first... we need a couple of maps... I need to finish the menu, it currently is in acceptable state, but I'd like to make a few changes... We need some kind of a system for the game, I thought that until we get the AI working as we want it to maybe we could just make a timer, so you have a certain amount of time to complete the level? Also, we could record the hiscores (lowest time to complete the level)... And we can add the Levels being locked/level shop later.
