3ds max

How do you skin a model in 3ds Max 2010? Last guy told me i had to unwrap the uvw in 3ds max and export it to photoshop. Well when I save it from the uvw edit window it saves as a .UV file. and photoshop does not recognize that. So how do I create a .UV file? Also I may be exporting or saving some other way?
