How tough is it to make a map?

I really would like to see a map of (or based on) a world from one of my most favorite games. Since no one is gonna make it for me (I wasn't expecting anyone to), I might try to make something sorta like it, but the map in the game itself was complex. No way some beginner could make it right off the bat.

It's called The Hollow Bastion from the first Kingdom Hearts, and here's a concept image of it, if I get it to show up right.



However, to get more detail on what the entire thing was like, you might have to play the game or watch videos of it, or see screen shots.

Any tips would be nice! But I think I saw (more like glanced through) some tutorial videos on YouTube.

You should probably create something more original. You can take inspiration from Hollow Bastion, but if you completely remake it, you are going to get into copyright problems, and I doubt Disney is merciful. Take care.

don't the copyrights for the hollow bastion and the associated music belong to square enix/squaresoft?

You could certainly do the map for your own pleasure, but if you tried to spread it out across the internet you might get cease and desist letter or sued. I think it would be more interesting to do a map inspired by it, not a rip off of it anyway. You could certainly do something similar, they can't copyright the idea itself, but the song and the exact layout would be a problem. Take care.

omg. Thats my faverite game too... and i made a hollow bastion map (hollow bastion/ kingdom hearts 2).
i think i saved it on a empty map long ago

Thats a nice map. It could use a little work though. As for Copyright, make some alterations in the map that are obvious, such as, add an extra section, remove some areas, etc... I doubt that Disney would have any major problems if you made a free, open-source project although I wouldnt risk it. I know Valve would incourage it, Lets say, if you make a Free, Open-source version of Half Life 2 with some huge alterations, they wouldnt really mind as they like fan-made projects.
Have a play around with the maps and see if Disney or related companies have any problems with you making any fan-made projects from what they have.
