Can Sandbox import Terrain from like L3DT? I tried importing one quickly as an .obj...but it looked funny Also...if it can import correctly. What can be done with the existing plane/terrain?
I'm not the expert that others are, but to the best of my knowledge terrain can't be imported like that and be able to be walked/climbed over.
As for that flat plane, that you can do something about. If you've looked in our gallery, the buildings, paths, roads, hills and such are all created from the geometry. There are a couple of ways to do this, one using the mouse and the other uses the keyboard. Myself, I use the mouse. I just highlight an area that I want to raise or lower (hold down the left mouse button as you run the cursor over an area) then use the scroll wheel on the mouse to raise or lower it.
I've edited the flat plane/terrain in sandbox quite a bit. I just have some experience with some other terrain makers/editors, and was curious if they could be imported. I agree...it looks like importing terrain is not supported. Not a huge deal...i'll just keep on making it in Sandbox.
Just use heighfieldmode, select the ground you want terrain on, press h, and scroll, you can try f3 for different brushes (I suggest you first use the brush you already use, and than a smooth brush to finish)
my best bet is that you can import maps and stuff as .obj, but it may not be big enough, and also we don't have specialized collisions, which means you can only walk on the surrounding box of the model.
