Game: Mary Child Of The Storm - A Present For A Little Girl

I asked my little buddy Mary what she wanted for Christmas and she said she wanted a video game. So I have decided to create what is tentatively being called:
Mary Child Of The Storm

I do have some other names for ideas too that I'll post below. She doesn't know yet that I'm actually doing a game and some people suggested that I keep it as a surprise so I think I'll do that

Help is certainly welcome, and also I was thinking about having a document included in the game where I'd put people's Christmas good will wishes to her. So in this thread you can post a nice message to her if you want and I'll put it with your forum name in the text document.

A little background on Mary is that she is always patient, happy, warm and friendly towards people and our conversations are generally lots of going back and forth so this project is definitely for a good cause. She is also my gaming buddy and we play left 4 dead and team fortress 2. Also she LOVES soup and it makes her really hyper and talk a mile a minute!

Gameplay:
Play as Mary, master of the wind and rescue me (Mike) from a castle/fort/stronghold while fighting off zombies and William The Dark Piper. As a note William is her brother

Spells:
(ready for testing Lclick) - Tornado blast - Sends enemies flying and does damage
(ready for testing Rclick) - Wind Smash - Close range area blast of wind
Wind Heal/Shield - either heals and/or adds armor
Levitate (or jump boost?) - Can levitate upwards for a period of time
Wind Rush - Uses the wind to propel her forward for a much faster movement speed

As a note it is already on the SVN with MaryStorm.bat to load up the game directly. I only have a simple test map but as mentioned the Tornado blast and Wind Smash are already ready for testing and are used with left and right click. MAKE SURE YOU COMPILE! I haven't updated the binary yet for the RPG since there is a lot of changes happening so when the game doesn't work just remember, you should have compiled! See the wiki if you need help.

Hirato please help with:
Basic attacking Zombie AI
Basic spell attack for the piper
Jump boost/blast spell
If possible, ability to associate a sound with a creature

The name sounds fabulous Mike! I'd keep it the way it is

The castle: Multiple level castle (very large) with one tower in the middle. The tower looks accessible from almost anywhere in the castle... except it isn't. There's a hidden door you must find that leads to the tower. Then there's the climatic showdown between the Piper and Mary right where Mike is being held.

Especially with mapping, which allows others like Hirato and Mike to spend more time coding the spells and AI.

Hi Thank you everyone for your kind words and support! I know it is a lot to try to do in two weeks but that is why it is going to be a short and sweet prototype map. It is always better to start small anyway and work up. If people enjoy the gameplay then it could certainly be branched out to future games.

Arcones you nailed pretty much exactly what I had in mind with the Piper being kind of in the inner keep. Before you'd see him you'd hear him playing Then you see him playing with me in prison behind D: I was thinking perhaps I wouldn't even actually be in a prison, but standing there enthralled in his music, so basically a cageless cage. Also got your Christmas wish for her added

Also, if one of use is really good, we could make musical notes as particles for the piper... So a musical note/lightning cage, almost

as for the tornado model, maybe you can make a skinned cylinder that rotates and moves for it's animation... or you can have different tornadoes for different spells...

Model is already in, spinning, and skinned, though it needs a better skin The spell also works as intended and sends enemies FLYING, quite fun Soon too Hirato is going to add it where the tornado keeps going even if it hits something so that you can go zombie bowling haha. Download the SVN, compile, and fire up MaryStorm.bat and have fun Take care!
