Im curious about some stuff...
I already found some answers, but then ive only found even more questions.
Before starting with the questions,im just glad to say that it was a pretty big surprise when i saw that what this can do,and better still, totally free, and with no coding needed [for more basic stuff,of course].
I could still go on,and mention about the whole thing, and how easy it is to create your own environment.
I made a very,very basic house [4 walls,2 floors,flat roof with a pool on top,a weird looking door,some random lighting,and a dwarf guarding the whole house]
Did that in less than 50 minute,1 hour tops...which i dont know if it was just because i added random stuff,or the fact that it was my second time trying it [i tried it a few months back,it was a different version, but as i remember, back then i had some lag issues with it,never managed to figure it out,so i deleted it]
Anyway...that was some boring stuff...now comes the questions :
1.Am i able to create/export the game like a executable ?
I saw the tutorial where it is explained how to "unbind" the key for edit, and remove some stuff from the menu.
But i didnt found anything about exporting the actual game, not a map.
In other words, can i make a actual game, that dosent require sandbox to run ?
I would love to get a "well" explained and detailed answer.
I read this topic : viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2462 and saw that the guy asked something similar, but not actually what im looking for.
2.Can i edit the menu design ?
Lets say i make a nice looking menu in photoshop.
Can i use that menu, similar to when cropping a website in photoshop ?Selecting zones, and adding them url locations.
In other words, can i use my own menu ?With stuff that i want to appear when the player presses the "escape" button ?
3.I read the FAQ on "How do I edit/play MULTIPLAYER with my friends/other people?"
I dont understand...am i able to play a game in multiplayer/coop right now for example ?Hosted by me,or another player,of course.
I guess those are all my questions that i can remember to ask them right now.
I had lots, and lots more, but after reading along the forums,FAQ and wiki + looking on youtube at some clips, some of those questions found theyre answer.
Another one that just came to me:
//4.
If i make a "maze-like" game,am i able to use various maps?
For example,if the player gets to the end of the map,can he somehow "move" to another map ?
And im not talking about the teleport thing, that lets you teleport from place A to place B...i actually mean a whole new map.

Few questions ...
Re: Few questions ...
Yes to all of those
1. to make an exe - ive never done it, but its a relatively easy process from what I hear - google "batch file to exe" Also people keep saying - can I make a game that doesnt require sandbox to run. Sandbox IS the engine for the game! The person doesnt have to download sandbox to play your game - sandbox becomes your game. To ask the question is like saying could I play *insert favourite game here" without all its system files - no you cant
Why would you want to lol
2. You can indeed - either modify an existing skin in photoshop (these are found in one of the folders - I cant remember offhand) or make a new one - its best to modify imo
3. Again - yes you can thats what the server.bat is for - again ive never done it, but I know its possible
4. This I know more about, and ive done it several times. you simply attach a triggger to an object and then code that trigger to carry out the action of \map your_mapname_here and it will take you to that map.
Hope I helped,
Owen.

Re: Few questions ...
That helped a lot.
But im still not getting the first question.
I know sandbox is the engine, but i dont understand how it its also the game ?
I will look a bit deeper in that batching process.
So,let me get this straight : you can make a game in sandbox [sandbox = engine and game,2 in 1 ?],and you can run that game, without another player needing to download Sandbox ?
Then,when you make a project,and save it...it has that .cfg format ?
How is someone able to play that, without having installed the actual sandbox engine ?

Re: Few questions ...
OK - im bad at explaining things lol. Say you make your game in sandbox. You code everything, you remove edit mode, you change the menu so that it matches the menu that you want the players of your game to see when they hit escape, and you make maps that load on to each other when you have finished. When you come out of edit mode again, you are pretty much playing your game. Sandbox has become your game. Yous save everything, and convert the .bat to .exe and when someone downloads your game they download your changed version of sandbox, in which they cant go into editmode etc.
Hope you understand me now
Theres no need for them to download sandbox, because all sandbox's files are in your game. Technically they download sandbox when they download your game
Wow I'm bad at this lol,
Owen.
Hope you understand me now

Re: Few questions ...
Actually,i understand now, after the second explication.
I knew that you can edit the game, like you do with a normal editor, and then,by pressing a button, you can play the game in less than 1 second [of course, starting from where you left building]
And after finishing all those things, you have to "somehow" [no need to look into the converting part right now]
So,in other words, the player downloads the whole thing [sandbox, which includes your game, but hes not able to edit it]
Then, how can the creator be sure that the player cant edit the game,if the player changes the settings made by the creator ?
And another question : is it possible to make a game with 2 mods ?
Like side view [scroll game or something like that],and after finishing a stage, getting back to normal 3d view ?

Re: Few questions ...
the player can change settings if hes very good at coding - but if you remove edit mode properly it will be hard. CAn I recommend you download cube2 as an example?

Re: Few questions ...
Thanks arcones...i know its hard when every user asks those questions.
I mean..not hard to explain,or hard for you to search for them....but hard for me,as a new "user/player".
Cause i have no idea what to actually look for.
I played cube 2 sauerbraten, and the first cube.
Both nice games,fast paced.
Cube 2 obviously has nicer graphics ,which for my surprise doesnt require a lot of resources.
Well, what else can i say...thanks for the support, and please leave the topic unlocked,in case i have more question on how to do some stuff [so there wont be any needs for a new topic]
