if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can use that to lower the sides down. There are 8 increments. You can use F to lower a cube in 8 increments, and Q does the same, only for corners though.

This ones an old question... Right, its pretty simple to do...
Press and hold G and scroll to Grid Size 3 (or 2). Create a layer of geometry blocks about 4 blocks wide, and 6 blocks long. Select one side of the block layer and aim at one of the corners facing AWAY from the centre, press Q and scroll, repeat this with the second outer corner, then repeat that with the next row of blocks.
