to sum it all up:

Cube 2: Sauerbraten, is a first-person shooter video game with an emphasis on multiplayer games. you can also play solo against bots. There are many modes, such as ctf (capture the flag) or deathmatch. It is also a map editor, but is primarily based on gameplay. It is a revision of the original Cube game and engine (note the name Cube 2: Sauerbraten). Many spin-offs have been made of Sauerbraten, such as Red Eclipse.

Platinum Arts Sandbox, by comparison, is based on game and map creation, along with kid-friendliness. However, it utilizes the Cube 2 engine with certain edits (such as the renaming of the monster entity to creature).
