64 is pushing it for network speed...there's no point in increasing it any higher than that.

it is possible to make bigger servers.... I just yesterday played a sauerbraten map with 128 ppl
it was quite fun

hmm ok,
but the more people who play, the more lag you're gonna get because you have to download information from all the other people playing constantly of their location and actions. Then your computer has to register them and draw the images. Lot of processing.
This is why in most first person shooter games they only hold a certain amount of people per server when playing online.

well think about MAG... (latest game for ps3)
it can hold hundreds of ppl... now that's not an ideal example, but I'm pretty sure if you've got a good computer, and with 64 people, that wouldn't be to hard... I mean, the person hosting it will have no lag.... I'm also thinking that there's really 20 ppl who'd want to play anyways...

Well when you have a server, you want AI to take the place of the players who havent yet joined. Like L4D, My Reactor 17 game will have about 4 people per squadron and its preferred that theyre real people. I may start up a server here that you guys are welcome to join.

I could have multiple servers making the max maybe 100. Similar to Runescape, but with a lower number.
